A very cheap and lightweight 2 in 1 device with full windows 8. Will it be worth your hard earned money?
In this review, I will be focusing more on performance, battery, size, design, and screen but first lets start with basic specs. To start, This tablet has a 10" inch 1366x768 display running on an intel atom processor with 2GB of ram and a couple of ports. This tablet is pretty thin at 10.7mm. now of course this comes with a keyboard, that's why its called a 2 in 1.
Performance
This device uses a Baytrail Intel Atom Z3775 quad core processor. This is much faster in terms of daily usage than the Z3735 and Z3740 processor. I am not sure this 2 in 1 is directly targeted against chromebooks but this device is basically an internet machine. It is basically designed for word processing and web browsing. After all this tablet does not run Intel Core, or even Pentium. You won't be able to play much games that are designed for pc. Not even Minecraft works perfectly unless you turn down all the settings. This device should do your everyday tasks extremely well, of course if your task is gaming, your looking into the wrong device. The Asus Transformer Book T100 comes with Full version of Office Home & Student edition pre-installed. This is such a great bonus, especially given its price.
Battery Life
This Tablet will handle a day's usage without any problem. It packs a 31 Whrs Polymer Battery. This is extremely impressive. I literally did not need to plug in my charger for 2 days and i approximately had on screen time of 8 hours. With my other laptop, I don't even get 3 hours of battery life and it gets annoying. I believe it is necessary to have long battery life as it does take a LONG time to charge.
Features and design
The ASUS transformer book T100, has a 10 inch screen with a resolution of 1366x768 as mentioned before. This means the keyboard has to meet the 10" inch size which makes it quite small. I must say the keys are quite cramped together but I can't blame ASUS for this. they are dealing with a 10" form factor and it is hard to get all the keys together especially given the price. the trackpad is just horrible. Its small, again can't blame them here, and just not welcoming to use. We do have the touch screen though. The speaker are amazing. They are very loud and great quality given its price. This device has only 1 camera and that's the front facing 1.2 megapixel camera. Nothing fancy here, just enough for video chat and that's basically it.
Conclusion
This tablet is completely made out of plastic and does not feel premium but for its price its solid. The keyboard dock is quite helpful, at least its full sized USB 3.0 port. Is this 2 in 1 worth your money? If you are looking for a cheap device which you want to use both as a tablet and or laptop with great battery life and average performance and are fine with a 10 Inch Screen, then defiantly. You won't have any regrets. If you simply want a larger version of 11.6 inch screen, then there is the ASUS Transformer Book T200 which i will be reviewing soon but it will cost you a little bit more. If you are looking a powerhouse, you are looking at the wrong device. It depends on personal needs, but I think this device is great for most of us given the fact that all we do generally is browse the web, watch videos, and maybe do some word processing.
